Deck & Exterior Wood Staining
UV-blocking deck, railing, and exterior cedar wood staining and sealing. Mountain Man Painting delivers exceptional surface prep, premium coatings, and a finish built for Colorado's mountain environment.
Professional Deck & Exterior Wood Staining in Colorado Mountain Communities
Decks and exterior wood take a beating in Colorado—foot traffic, furniture, snow, and intense UV all break down stain and wood fiber. Proper staining protects the wood and extends the life of the structure.
We wash, assess board condition, sand, and apply a penetrating stain suited to the surface, then help you plan maintenance so the deck survives winter after winter.
Who This Is For
Homeowners and cabin owners with wood decks, railings, spindles, or cedar exterior wood in the Colorado mountains.
Surfaces & Project Types
- Deck walking surfaces and boards
- Railings and spindles
- Exterior cedar siding and trim where applicable
- Fences and other exterior wood
Preparation Process
- Washing to remove dirt, mildew, and gray wood fiber
- Inspection of board condition; repairs where included
- Scraping and sanding of failing stain
- Moisture check before staining to ensure proper penetration
Application & Materials
- Penetrating oil or acrylic stain selected for the surface and exposure
- UV-blocking formulation for high-altitude sun
- Brush and wipe technique for even penetration on railings and spindles
- Maintenance plan to protect the finish through Colorado winters
Climate & Durability Considerations
Snow pack, freeze-thaw, and high UV degrade deck stain faster than on vertical siding. Horizontal surfaces hold moisture and snow, so they need more frequent maintenance than walls.
Service-Specific Benefits
- UV-blocking protection for high-altitude sun
- Penetrating stain resists peeling
- Extends the life of deck boards
- Maintenance plan for Colorado winters

What Customers Say
"Contracted to stain our 21 year old log cabin. Although the cabin has been well maintained, Derek pointed to some improvements that could make it even better. His team was outstanding. They were focused but responsive and did an unbelievable job of covering everything that we signed up for. Outstanding job, done with a likeable but talented 4 man team and finished in record time of 1 1/2 days. What was amazing is that ALL of the staining was done by brush which is very very rare today and it showed in a glowing example of what a knowledgeable, focused team can deliver on. We will definitely use them again....and again as you must stay on top of the maintenance for real log cabins. Thank you Mountain Man Painting"
— Charles Whipple"Great experience!! Our deck needed serious help. Derek shored up loose wooden planks and did a bang up job with the paint. They also repaired water damage on a cinder block wall and painted it. Everything looks so much better. They do excellent work. They put all the furniture back afterwards. I am grateful to have them help care for our cabin."
