Question 1

What communities does Mountain Man Painting serve?

Accepted Answer

We serve Twin Lakes, Buena Vista, Breckenridge, and Leadville, along with surrounding communities in Lake County, Chaffee County, and Summit County. If you're nearby and unsure whether we cover your area, just ask when you request your estimate.

Question 2

Do you provide free estimates?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation estimates. After inspecting your property, you receive a written scope that documents the surfaces, preparation, materials, and labor included so you can make an informed decision.

Question 3

Are you licensed and insured?

Accepted Answer

Mountain Man Painting is fully insured. We're happy to confirm coverage details during your estimate so you have confidence before work begins on your property.

Question 4

What does Sashco certification mean?

Accepted Answer

Sashco Log Home Certification means specialized training in Sashco's log home sealant and stain systems. It reflects experience with the products and methods specifically engineered for log and timber structures, which behave very differently from conventional siding.

Question 5

How does Colorado's altitude affect exterior paint?

Accepted Answer

At high elevation, UV intensity is much stronger, which breaks down paint binders faster and causes fading and chalking. Rapid temperature swings and freeze-thaw cycles also stress coatings. That's why we use flexible, high-quality acrylic coatings and thorough preparation suited to mountain exposure.

Question 6

What preparation is included before painting?

Accepted Answer

Preparation typically includes washing, scraping loose paint, sanding, caulking and sealing gaps, spot priming bare areas, and protecting surrounding surfaces. The exact steps depend on the surface and its condition, and they're documented in your written estimate.

Question 7

How often should exterior paint be renewed?

Accepted Answer

In Colorado's mountain climate, exterior paint typically needs attention sooner than in milder regions due to UV exposure and freeze-thaw cycles. South- and west-facing walls usually show wear first. We assess the condition of your coating during your estimate rather than applying a one-size-fits-all timeline.

Question 8

How often should a log home be restained?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the product, exposure, and elevation. South- and west-facing walls usually need attention first. A simple water-bead test helps—when water stops beading and begins to absorb, the protective finish has worn away. We help you plan maintenance before moisture damage sets in.

Question 9

Can you remove a failing coating from a log home?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When an existing stain has failed badly, media blasting can remove the old coating down to clean wood so a new finish can properly penetrate and bond. We test the surface first to choose the right media and pressure for the wood and coating condition.

Question 10

Do you paint kitchen cabinets?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We refinish existing cabinets with a professional process that includes removing and labeling doors and drawers, degreasing, sanding, bonding primer, spraying a cabinet-grade topcoat, and proper curing before reassembly. If your cabinet boxes are structurally sound, painting is usually far less disruptive than replacement.

Question 11

Do customers need to leave during interior painting?

Accepted Answer

Not usually. We protect surrounding areas, use low-VOC options where appropriate, and maintain a tidy workspace with daily cleanup. For larger or more involved projects we can discuss scheduling around your needs, but most interior work can be completed while you remain in the home.

Question 12

How long does a typical project take?

Accepted Answer

Timelines depend on the project's size, the amount of preparation required, the surfaces involved, and—especially for exterior work—the weather. Rather than give a generic answer, we provide a realistic timeline based on your property after inspecting it.

Question 13

Do you help with colors and finishes?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We help confirm colors, finishes, stain systems, and products appropriate for your property and its exposure. We can discuss sheen selection, color pairing with natural wood and stone, and products suited to how you use the space.

Question 14

What happens during the final walkthrough?

Accepted Answer

After cleanup, we walk the completed project with you to review the finished work, answer any remaining questions, and address any touch-ups. The project isn't finished until you're satisfied with the result.

Question 15

Do you provide commercial painting?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We provide interior and exterior commercial painting for offices, stores, hospitality properties, and common areas. We plan commercial work around your operating schedule and occupancy to minimize disruption.

Question 16

Can photographs be uploaded when requesting a quote?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When you submit your estimate request you can include photos of the areas you'd like painted or restored. Photos help us understand the scope before we inspect the property in person.
